The Vineyard Playhouse and the Edgartown, Tisbury, Oak Bluffs and West Tisbury Schools are presenting new, original short plays for the public on four Saturdays from January 26 through February 16 at 3 PM and 7 PM.
Each school will perform their two or three plays of the ten total each weekend. The fourth graders invented all the characters, settings and plots for their plays which were then scripted and directed by Project co-directors, MJ Bruder Munafo and Kate Hancock.
To see all ten highly imaginative new works, come every weekend!
The complete schedule follows:
- Saturday, January 26th at 3 PM & 7 PM the Edgartown School performs MEOWSKI! THE NEW FARM FAMILY, HISTORIC BLACKOUT and A MONKEY IN THE WHITE HOUSE.
- Saturday, Febuary 2nd at 3 PM & 7 PM the Tisbury School performs THE DUCK, THE WIZARD AND THE PIANO and BLIND VISION.
- Saturday, February 9th at 3 PM & 7 PM the Oak Bluffs School performs SHILLELAGH SHENANIGANS, TRANSATLANTIC CAPER and ANCIENT WAYS AND SKUNK DELAYS.
- Saturday, February 16th at 3 PM & 7 PM the West Tisbury School performs PHAROAH’S PHEARLESS PHELINE and BLACKBEARD’S BACK!
The public performances represent the culmination of the children’s participation in the FOURTH GRADE THEATER PROJECT this year. The Project is a joint educational collaboration between The Vineyard Playhouse and all island schools. Many adult theater instructors work with the students who are immersed in a hands-on theater experience that is a part of their language arts curriculum. This exciting eleven week introduction to the collaboration of live theater was begun in 1994 by MJ Bruder Munafo and Georgia Morris. This year’s Fourth Grade Theater Project is supported by generous grants from the Martha’s Vineyard Cultural Council, The Sharp-Curtis Foundation and local businesses.
Tickets for the Saturday shows are $6 adults and $4 children and are available at the box office on the day of the performance.
