The more we try and change things, the more they stay the same. Or so it seems when it comes to the complex web of terrorism, politics, and the relationship between government and the media. The Vineyard Playhouse explores these important issues in its upcoming production of Lee Blessing’s TWO ROOMS, directed by Vineyard Playhouse Artistic Associate Joann Green Breuer and featuring powerhouse performances by veterans of the Playhouse stage. TWO ROOMS will open on July 13th, following previews on July 11th and 12th, at The Vineyard Playhouse, 24 Church Street in downtown Vineyard Haven.
This Pulitzer Prize nominated play and Time magazine’s best play of 1988 is all the more relevant today. “The play feels ripped from the headlines even through it was written almost twenty years ago. We are thrilled to bring it to our stage” says Vineyard Playhouse Producer and Artistic Director MJ Bruder Munafo. Blessing is renowned for putting human faces on immense ideas, and TWO ROOMS does so with gut-wrenching force. In this production, wife and husband map a modern geography of love, politics, and the media against the backdrop of America and the Middle East.
The production stars familiar faces of the Vineyard Playhouse stage including Sheryl Dagostino (The Fourth Grade Theater Project, The Snow Queen, The Last Night of Ballyhoo), Brooke Hardman Ditchfield (Henry IV parts I & I, Island Interludes 2007), Gregory Jones (Danny and the Deep Blue Sea) and Peter Stray (Much Ado About Nothing, Romeo and Juliet). Joann Green Breuer’s many Vineyard Playhouse directing credits include A Shayna Maidel, The Last Night of Ballyhoo, and most recently The Archbishop’s Ceiling.
Don’t miss what is sure to be a show that goes down in Playhouse history as one of the most stunningly directed and masterfully performed productions the Vineyard Playhouse has ever produced.
