Come see new short plays by local playwrights this weekend at the Vineyard Playhouse! The Playhouse is presenting ISLAND INTERLUDES: New Work by Local Writers, on Friday, May 11 & Saturday, May 12, as well as Friday, May 18 & Saturday, May 19.
This Friday and Saturday will feature fully staged readings of 4 new plays from Martha’s Vineyard writers. ADOPTION by Jon Greene, a former Playhouse intern and current Edgartown resident, tackles the moment when the adoption letter arrives for two fathers who have waited for too long. The play is directed by Mara Ditchfield and Jon Greene. CLOSURE by West Tisbury writer Trudy Russell and directed by Playhouse Artistic Director MJ Bruder Munafo, is a searing comedic look into a 1950’s family as dramatic secrets unfold. COMING HOME is written and directed by Playhouse production manager Kate Hancock and is based on a sermon titled “God is a Woman and She's Getting Old.” This short play explores family and what it means to grow old in these modern times. The last play of the evening is FIVE-SEVEN-FIVE by Playhouse Business Manager (and the guy behind the new website) Brian Ditchfield. This one-act play, directed by Brian Ditchfield and Mara Ditchfield, is a love story amid a woman's delusions that she is on a stage and that an audience is always is always watching her. Actors appearing in this evening of plays include Nancy Luedeman, Jill Macy, Paul Munafo, Mara Ditchfield, Christopher Kann, Jon Greene, Brooke Hardman and Brian Ditchfield.
Next weekend on Friday, May 18 and Saturday, May 19, there will be a special trilogy by Brewster writer Maureen Hourihan entitled SLOW TRAIN COMING. The show is directed by MJ Bruder Munafo and features Clark Maffitt, BeeBee Horowitz, Paul Munafo and Sheryl Dagostino. These three short plays are a daughter’s sweet tribute to her dad and are about families living with Alzheimer’s.
Each evening will be followed by a short question and answer session with the writer(s). Full tea service will be served by The English Butler of Edgartown before, after and during intermission of each evening's performance.
